YOUNG PARENT PROGRAM (YPP)

Working Together For A Better Life

Provides services for pregnant and young parents between the ages of 13 and 21 years of age.   The main objectives are to provide education, support, intervention and to strengthen healthy parent-child relationships.

Education focuses on the developmental stages, needs, parenting and living independent skills, nutrition, and other skills identified by the group.

Experienced speakers from the community offer support and information. Examples of popular topics are early childhood education, discipline, self-esteem, domestic violence, health-related topics such as birth control or how to handle common childhood illnesses, educational opportunities and personal development. A variety of topics are offered each year depending on the group and what they are requesting.

Besides gaining valuable information every week, participants attending this group also receive the opportunity to interact with other young parents and share their experiences with one another and build a new network of support and friendships.

Child care volunteers provide the children with love, care and attention while the parents attend the program.
